In history, Europeans were jealous of the British food. The British had the best cuisine in Europe
in the 18th century. Visitors said you could find such delicious and fresh meat only in Britain. British
pies were very famous, too. The best meat and crops in Britain were about the climate, hard-working
farmers, and fertile soil. British cuisine needed very few 'additions' like spices but the food itself was
very delicious thanks to the high-quality ingredients.
In the Victorian age, people's opinion about English food changed. It
lost its importance. In the 20th century, two world wars affected some
of the good old English food badly. They lost their taste. During these
wars, the country was apart from the rest of Europe. Because Britain
is an island over Europe. After the war, there wasn't enough food left
anymore.
Another reason for this loss was the fast food industry. It is a style of
food in the USA in the 1960s. People wanted to eat faster, but English
recipes needed more time to prepare. They were more complex than
just getting a burger.
