Personal Traits of Aşık Veysell At the age of 7, Aşık Veysel lost his left eye as a result of smallpox and his right eye as a result of misfortune. Aşık Veysel was married twice. He had 7 children. He traveled around Anatolia from city to city and sang his poems with his saz. He gave saz and folk songs lessons at Village Institutes. The cause of death is lung cancer. He wrote some of his most beautiful poems just before his death. Now, a festival is held every year in Sarkisla. Aşık Veysel Turkish is simple. He uses language skillfully. His technique is unpretentious and almost flawless. Joy of life and sadness, optimism and despair are intertwined in his poems. There are also poems in which he criticizes nature, social events, religion and politics. His poems were collected in the books Deyişler (1944), Sazımdan Sesler (1950), Friends Remember Me (1970). After his death, his works were republished under the name of All Poems (1984).
