My mind was still in a mess as I tied my boat to the little pier on the morning of that dreadful day. I had rowed for two hours and was tired. My hands hurt like they were cut with a knife. My palms were blistered. But I didn't care. I did what I needed to do. Restlessly, I turned my eyes to the misty sea one last time. Then I turned around and walked towards the house, ignoring the pebbles digging into my bare feet. I had just turned nineteen. It was a time when I had serious problems with my family because of concerns about my future. At a time when I was tired of arguing and thinking, my parents' trip to Istanbul for a short time gave me a few days to breathe. We used to come to this town every summer since I was a kid. My father had a beautiful house built in one of the small bays on the coast. The view from our balcony was unmatched. Our garden always seemed like a vast place to me. Our surroundings were unsettlingly secluded, but if you ask my father, that was the main reason why he had our summer house built here.
